This 16 hour class will be taught by Bob Koester, on June 8 & 9, 2020 – 2 days before the regular conference. If you wish be become a trainer to teach this class, please register for the 3-day Train-The-Trainer option, which will be running concurrently.
Lost person behavior is the basis of search and rescue missions. This course will present the most recent advances in lost person behavior with Robert Koester’s latest research, and new behavior categories crucial to solving the mystery of where to look for a lost person.
- Study planning and operational considerations for managing search resources
- Learn about dozens of missing person category specifics
- Use actual search mission table-top exercises to apply learning points
Professionally presented classroom sessions will incorporate table-top exercises. These exercises are designed to allow students to practice and develop efficient deployment strategies for search resources. Participants will go in to details of actual search missions and the profiles of different groups, in addition to hands-on experience with creating reflex tasks and focused investigation questions. From abductions to lost workers, subjects with dementia, aircraft and more, a total of 41 different subject categories will be presented.
LOST PERSON BEHAVIOR TRAIN-THE-TRAINER
Become certified to instruct Lost Person Behavior by Robert Koester. This is a 3-day long class that will take place on June 8, 9, & 10, 2020 – immediately before the regular conference. Participants will attend the full Lost Person Behavior program, and also receive in-depth instruction, a statistics for SAR primer, and case studies that goes above and beyond the actual course. Participants will walk away with new practical knowledge, a license to instruct the course, Lost Person Behavior Instructor’s Resource DVD (includes PowerPoint), Lost Person Behavior text, Urban Search, Instructor’s Activity Guide, Lost Person Behavior Workbook, Slide masters, and Data Analysis Handbook.

INSTRUCTOR – Robert Koester
Robert has participated in search and rescue for 38 years both as a field responder with over a hundred searches while Incident Commander and as a researcher. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Portsmouth in search theory. His contributions to search and rescue include seminal research on lost person behavior along with creating the International Search and Rescue Incident Database (ISRID). He is CEO of dbS, which provides research, publications, and SAR software called FIND. Robert has authored numerous books and research articles on SAR, including Lost Person Behavior, which has been presented on all seven continents.
